Temporary Full-Time Direct Care Worker

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities:

  •  Working with children and youth experiencing mental health challenges providing out-of-home, high-level (intensive) therapeutic treatment services and day-to-day supports
  •  Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships and attend to the diverse needs of youth
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for participants; intervene, remain calm and focused in crisis situations while utilizing effective de-escalation and decision-making skills
  • Create, plan, coordinate person-centred programs that promote educational, behavioural, developmental, psychological, and emotional growth
  • Facilitate partnerships within the community while advocating for youths’ needs
  • Work successfully with diverse groups and demonstrate commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice

Schedule: 32-40 scheduled hours per week; varied shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays
Expected End: March 2025

Education Requirement: Post Secondary Diploma 

Please be advised that it is mandatory for all direct support staff to have a Class G Driver’s License

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Community, and/or Social Services (e.g., SSW, CYC, BSW, Social Sciences)
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements specific to the roles and responsibilities of the job
  •  Strong leadership, rapport-building, mentorship, advocacy, organization, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, in addition to attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team (internal and external), and independently as necessary
  •  Capacity to establish, implement, and maintain professional, and personal boundaries
  •  Multilingualism and having diverse lived experiences are considered assets

Requirements:

  • Valid Class G (full) Driver’s License with a 3-year Uncertified Driver Record
  • Satisfactory current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Physical Health assessment: verification of up-to-date immunizations, COVID vaccination status (2 doses), and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR, Level C with AED training preferred

Salary Details:

Compensation: $19.98/hour plus vacation pay; 2.5% in lieu of benefits
