Summer 2022 Student Hiring – Seasonal
Department: Recreation and Facilities
Position: Lifeguards/Aquatic Instructors (Up to 10 Positions)


Under the general direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, Instructors/Lifeguards are responsible for:

  • Being actively involved in programming at the Glencoe Pool, including but not limited to swim lessons, facility rentals, and drop-in recreational programming
  • Performing various maintenance duties to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Promoting public water safety education

Aquatic lifeguards and swim instructors provide lifesaving supervision to the Glencoe Pool. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering the summer aquatic programs offered by SWM. This will provide recreational opportunities for people of all ages through a variety of educational lessons, open public swimming and promote a healthy lifestyle through aquatic activity.


Experience and Education:

  • Must be 15 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR (C) (or willingness to obtain
  • Valid National Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI)
  • Valid National Lifesaving Society Life Saving Instructor (LSI)
  • Current National Lifeguard
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Background Check
  • Experience with aquatic chemistry and mechanics will be considered an asset
  • Experience working in programming with children and adults will be considered an asset
  • Leadership and supervisory experience will be considered an asset

Work Location: Glencoe Pool. Staff are required to provide their own transportation.

Hours of work: Staff must be available to work varying hours. Hours may start as early as 6am and end as late as 10:30pm depending upon pool assignment. Hours will be dictated as per operational need of the aquatic facility. Employment will be from (June 1 – September 5).

Rate of pay: $14.97 – $17.51 per hour

Interviews– Interviews will be done in waves. Early application is encouraged.

Qualifications – All qualifications need to be current before the official opening date of the Glencoe Pool. Please submit a copy of your qualifications with your application. If you have not taken the course but intend to prior to the deadline date, please include proof of enrollment in the required course if possible.
