Q: How do I apply for an apprenticeship?

A: Applying for an apprenticeship role is like applying for any other job – you are job searching and looking for an employer who is open to taking on an apprentice.
We are here to help you:
Step 1: Choose your trade – we can help you explore your interests to determine which skilled trade is the right fit for you.
Step 2: Find an employer (sponsor) – This is an important step. You will need to find an employer who is willing to train you as an apprentice. We can help you connect with the right opportunities by assisting with your job search, developing your resume, and preparing you for interviews.
Step 3: Sign a training agreement – Once you have been hired, you and your employer will sign a Training Agreement, registered with Skilled Trades Ontario. Once approved, you will be able to record your training journey in your Apprenticeship Training Standard Logbook.
Step 4: Start your journey! You will begin learning on the job (approximately 80% of your training) and attend in school training (about 20% of your time) throughout your apprenticeship.

Q: I’m looking for hybrid or work-from-home opportunities? Can you help with that?

A: Yes – CEC can absolutely help you explore hybrid & remote opportunities! Because many employers now offer flexible work, especially hybrid roles, there are some real options available. That being said, not every job can be done from home, and finding the right hybrid or remote position might take some patience & time. One important skill that can make a big difference is networking – connecting with people in your field, employers & community. CEC can help you build and practice networking skills, so you can open more doors and uncover opportunities that might not be advertised publicly.
CEC will support you every step of the way, from job searching to building the skills that help you succeed in today’s flexible work world.

Q: When is the best time to job search? Is September a good time?

A: Yes! September can be one of the busiest hiring months of the year! Many local employers ramp up after summer holidays and prepare for fall and winter needs. Job postings often increase, so it is a great time to make sure your resume is polished, your applications ready and start reaching out to employers. The truth is, the best time to job search is when you are ready, but certain months, like September & January, can give you an extra edge because hiring activity can be higher.
